Membership in The American Legion is open to eligible veterans and active duty service members. When you join Post 47, you become part of a nationwide organization dedicated to veterans, families, and community service.
If you are not sure whether you qualify, we can help you confirm eligibility and complete an application. Bring a copy of your DD Form 214, or any discharge or service document that shows your dates and character of service.
Eligibility
The American Legion eligibility period includes service from December 7, 1941 to the present, including current campaigns, due to the LEGION Act.
- Served at least one day of active duty during the eligible period.
- Received an honorable discharge, or a discharge under honorable conditions, or is currently serving honorably.
- Have documentation that supports service and discharge status, such as a DD Form 214.

How to Join
You can join in person through Post 47 or online through The American Legion membership system.

Membership dues are paid annually. Dues support local Post 47 operations, Department of Kansas programs, and national American Legion programs.
