American Legion Auxiliary Poppy Poster Contest

Teaching Remembrance Through Art

The American Legion Auxiliary Poppy Poster Contest encourages students to learn about the meaning of the red poppy and express their respect for veterans through original artwork.

About the Contest

American Legion Auxiliary units sponsor Poppy Poster contests in local schools and youth organizations. Students create original posters that help communicate the meaning of the red poppy as a symbol of remembrance and support for America’s veterans.

When a school does not conduct the contest, other youth groups and American Legion Auxiliary Junior members may participate under the supervision of a local Auxiliary unit.

Why the Poppy Matters

The red poppy has long served as a symbol of remembrance for military personnel who died while serving their country. Through this contest, students learn how art can preserve memory, honor sacrifice, and help communities remember their veterans.
